The Charter for Independent Advocates

Having an advocate can empower people who are struggling to access these rights because it means that they are not alone and can have someone independent and impartial to support them as they navigate these bureaucratic systems.

Although we use the peer advocacy model as I am a SEND parent to two children, the most powerful advocacy model is self-advocacy and we hope to signpost you to the most accurate and up-to-date information to empower your decision making.

Please find attached the 10 principles that govern The Advocacy Charter for Independent Advocates and Advocacy Providers such as Hawthorns.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

At Hawthorns we are committed to ensuring that we communicate with our families in a clear and equitable manner. If you wish to have:

  • Translators at meetings
  • Documents translated
  • Easy-Read Documents
  • Braille
  • Sign- Language

Or any type of inclusive communication from the school then please e-mail me at liz.hillier@newbridgegroup.org and we will try to accommodate your request.

The Wider Community

Currently I am building relationships with partners across the community alongside our Parent Governor, Alex Webster. So far we are actively working with:

The Hattersley Hub

Tameside Carers Centre

Tameside Young Carers

Greater Manchester Autism Consortium

 OKE (Our Kids Eyes)

TASCA

 And the list is growing!

If you are a community group and interested in forging a relationship with Hawthorns to help support the wider community then please e-mail me at liz.hillier@newbridgegroup.org
