Dear Hawthorns Families,
I wrote to you recently to explain that as part of the ongoing development of Hawthorns School one of our focus areas is how we engage with and inform parents in regard to all aspects of school. Currently there are a number of methods used but we will only use Class Dojo from the 3rd November 2025. All X (Twitter) accounts will close from this date except the school information page.
Class Dojo (www.classdojo.com) creates closed groups where teachers can instantly send messages and photos of activities in class to allow parents greater access to the students learning experiences in school. There is also the possibility of messaging between class and parents that will be easier than writing in the diaries daily.
This APP does not share student information, families information and is very private – several classes in school currently use it with great success. It also allows translation to over 130 languages.
The class Dojo website has easy to follow instructions and “how to” guides, if you need further assistance please contact the school and we will help you get started.
With any application such as this (as we have done with Arbor and Evidence for learning) we need to set clear expectation for staff and families around what you can expect from the team in school and strict user expectations from all users in and out of school. You will find attached to this letter a user agreement, once you agree to it please sign to agree using the link we have sent you on Arbor.
- We will manage the school information – all you have to do is down load the app and sign up using the code we will give you that will directly link you to your son or daughter – each family can have 2 accounts and must be for family with direct parental responsibility – we are not able to allow access for extended family members.
- We will create classes and send the QR code or password home to parents so they can join with access to messages sent re their son / daughter and their class.
- Parents will need to download the free APP for their device at home.
We will send home details of how to do this – and add them to the school website.
Class Dojo is a series of pages that they name “Stories”, we will have -
- A School Story – to give information to the whole school, such as events, special occasions and news
- Class stories – to send information to whole classes as closed groups.
- Direct messages between class teachers and individual parents / carers.
I fully understand that some parents will want to discuss joining in more detail, however, we strongly urge all families who can to sign up.
Class Dojo will not replace existing processes for contacting school for pupil absences, holiday requests, information re school meals etc. But will replace any use of X (twitter) and use of home to school books.
