 Class Dojo Parental Agreement

Class Dojo – Families & School user Agreement / Guidelines

Class Dojo is for users to communicate between school and home positively, sharing messages and pictures to enable parents / carers to engage with children’s time in school.

This user agreement is to outline expectations for the use of class Dojo for all members of the Hawthorns School Community. It outlines expectations for families in regard to data protection and expectations of school staff with respect to amount and content in communication.

Once this agreement is signed using Arbor - your individual code to sign up to your son/daughter’s class will be sent home. If abused the Headteacher reserves the right to remove people from pages associated with the school until any misuse has been investigated

All users will not share any photos on social media unless permission is sought- By signing up to this agreement you are agreeing not to share the images sent in any way for example on Social Media platforms such as Face Book and Instagram.

School Staff (Individual, class and school story pages)

  • Will only use devices owned by school - not personal devices.
  • Class pages to update families on essential information and sending a class activity video’s – There will be an expectation that a minimum of 2 are sent weekly but an aspiration that a daily video is sent.
  • The Headteacher, SLT and pastoral team will manage the School Story with messages for all parents, events or initiatives.
  • School staff will check or send messages between 8.30 - 4.30pm daily, news and photos may be sent later but there is no expectation of class staff to respond to messages out of these hours.
  • Teachers will manage individual student’s pages and class stories to share relevant information with the whole class group.
  • Dojo does allow an option for class “rewards / points” systems. Classes may use this, but we do not expect / insist that each class uses this function.

Parents / carers

  • Only family members / adults with parental responsibility will be issued access code to a child’s class dojo account.
  • Families will agree to not share access codes with extended family or friends, any other accounts will be removed (this is due to GDPR regulations)
  • Observe the contact hours for staff and continue to contact school in the usual way for medical / office, nurses, transport or to contact the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Telephone school with absences and any appointments holiday requests as normal = do not use Dojo for this
  • Will not comment on the class story – comments should be shared with the teacher directly.
  • We are able to set up separate accounts with connections to an individual student for families with shared care. In these cases parents will message individually to teachers not between each other.

Pupils will not have their own individual access to Class Dojo

The school may remove any member of the school community from the application temporarily or permanently if the site is used inappropriately by family members or unprofessionally by staff.

Guidelines on frequency of messages  - to manage expectations of families regarding receiving messages and responses from school & appropriate workload expectations of teachers.

  • We will contact regularly - this will vary from week to week, day to day and class to class. However, each class will post a daily video to the class story. Please do not compare classes, individual staff members – each class will be different. If you are concerned about a lack of information contact the Head Teacher directly.
  • There is no requirement to message every day but it will be an expectation that a class message would be received if possible and appropriate to update parents on the day’s activity.
  • Teachers will monitor message 8.30 – 9am and 3 – 4pm after that school may send messages but will not check for messages from home
  • Staff will not respond to messages during learning time – as they are bust supporting the children.
