Welcome to Fir Class

Fir class is made up of Year 1 and 2 learners and we are the eldest children on the First Steps Pathway. We love to learn through a semi structured curriculum which combines focused sessions with continuous provision. The majority of children in Fir Class will progress onto the Aspire Pathway.
Our key priorities are independence in learning via continuous provision, continued development of cooperative play and the acquisition of early curriculum skills such as phonics, reading, number and writing.

The Adults in Fir Class are:

 Name  Position
 Mrs E. Platt  Class Teacher
 Mrs R. Simmons  Teaching Assistant
Mrs D. Lees/ Mrs P. Badrock  Teaching Assistants
 Miss P. Ruddock  Teaching Assistant

Within the First Steps Pathway classes theme their learning around half termly topics. These are chosen with pupil’s interests and developmental levels in mind and can change dependent on the needs of particular cohorts. Teaching and learning is delivered in a cross curricular way and planned activities often cover more than one area of learning following the Early Years Framework.

Our areas of learning are-
• Expressive Art and Design
• Physical Development
• Personal, Social, Emotional and Mental Health Development
• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understanding the World.
All our sessions are hands on and engaging to ensure pupils develop a love for learning. Each session is differentiated to the individual child to ensure learning is meaning and purposeful to all.

Parent App

Hawthorns school now has a parent app (PA Connect) The app is now the school’s main way of communication.  This reduces the amount of paper we use as an Eco School.  All letters, newsletters and important message will be sent directly to your phone or tablet via the app.  Parents and carers can also update changes in emergency contact numbers that we have on our systems for your child.  For more information about what else the parent app and a step-by-step guide on how to install the app click here
