Curriculum Organisation

At Hawthorns, we believe that all pupils are entitled to a broad, balanced, relevant and appropriate curriculum and our curriculum is designed to enable us to support our pupils to overcome their personal barriers to learning.

We are on a continual journey to ensure our curriculum meets the complex needs of all our learners and addresses the holistic needs of every individual as outlined in their Education Health and Care Plan.

We have an increasing number of pupils for whom the development of language and communication skills is a primary area of need.

In order to address these needs, we research strategies and approaches and ensure that these approaches are implemented through all curriculum areas and that language and communication is a key element of all pupils personalised plans.

On entry into school, pupils are placed on one of 5 Curriculum Pathways:

First Steps

Communication (ER)

Communication (SC)
