Welcome to Ash Class

We are an Early Years class within the First Steps Pathway at Hawthorns School. We love to learn through play! Ash class follow the First Steps Curriculum based upon the EYFS Framework. The primary focus in Ash is the development of children’s social communication, attention skills and engagement in learning. Using elements adapted from the SEE-KS model (Social, Emotional, Engagement – Knowledge and Skills), children are taught to regulate their emotions and develop their social communications and joint attention. Our key priorities are supporting pupils to follow rules and boundaries and successfully engage in social interactions, turn-taking and co-operative play.

The Adults in Ash Class are:

 Name  Position
 Miss L. Green  Class Teacher
 Miss S. Archer  Teaching Assistant
 Miss T. Hatton  Teaching Assistant
 Miss H. Hughes  Teaching Assistant

As well as developing our communication and interaction skills, we also develop our early curriculum skills in line with the EYFS framework. To achieve this, we cover a wide range of exciting topics to expand our understanding of the world around us – these are often linked to children’s interests. All sessions are hands on and engaging to ensure pupils develop a love for learning.  Each session is differentiated to the individual child to ensure learning is meaning and purposeful to all.
